NEW! Chávez Renaming Home
WELCOME
Eugene School District 4J is beginning an important community process to choose a new name for César Chávez Elementary School. We want this process to reflect the voices, experiences, hopes, and values of the people who know and care about this school. Our goal is to find a name that students, families, staff, and the community can carry forward with pride and a strong sense of belonging.
There will be many opportunities to participate along the way. We invite current and former families, students, staff, alumni, neighbors, Tribal partners, community organizations, and members of the broader community to share ideas and perspectives. At the heart of this process are our current Chávez students, families, and staff. Their voices will be especially important as we move toward a final preference because they are the community that will carry the school’s new name into the future.
The process will follow Eugene School District 4J Board Policy FF and will be supported by the Renaming Advisory Committee. The committee will carefully consider community input, student voice, the published naming criteria, and the research and due diligence completed for potential names. From there, the Superintendent will determine the recommendation brought forward to the Board of Directors, which has final authority to approve the school’s new name.
We hope you will join us, share your voice, and help shape the next chapter of this school community.
Desired Outcome
A name the Chávez school community can embrace — one that reflects student belonging, cultural identity, community history and values, and meets the requirements of Board Policy FF.
