School Meals for the 2026-27 School Year

What Families Can Expect This Fall

Eugene School District 4J remains committed to ensuring that every student has access to nutritious meals during the school day. As we prepare for the 2026–27 school year, there will be some changes to how meals are offered through Nutrition Services.

This page outlines what those changes mean for your student and your family.

Meals Remain Free for All Students

All students will continue to receive:

  • One breakfast each school day at no cost
  • One lunch each school day at no cost

No application is required.

Changes to Meal Service

Beginning this fall, the Nutrition Services program will operate differently in order to align with available funding. Families may notice the following changes:

Portioning and Meal Access

  • Meals will move away from an “all you care to eat” model.
  • Each student will receive one complete breakfast and one complete lunch per day at no cost.

Additional Items

  • Second servings (such as an additional entrée or meal) will be available for purchase.
  • Additional milk beyond what is included with a meal will also be available for purchase.

Menu and Food Offerings

Our team will continue to serve meals that meet USDA nutrition standards, ensuring students receive balanced and healthy options each day.

At the same time, families should be aware of the following changes:

  • Menu offerings will be more standardized across schools.
  • Specialized menu options (including regular gluten-free or vegetarian alternatives as equal daily choices) will be more limited than in previous years.

Meal Accommodations

Nutrition Services will continue to support students with medically necessary dietary needs.

If your child requires a meal accommodation:

  • A Medical Statement for Meal Accommodation must be completed and signed by a licensed healthcare provider.
  • This documentation must be on file with the district in order for accommodations to be provided.

We encourage families who may need accommodations to begin this process as soon as possible to ensure supports are in place at the start of the school year.
