4J Volunteers
Thank you for completing the preliminary volunteer background check with Eugene School District 4J. Please find your next steps below. Not all volunteers will require fingerprinting, so please read below to see if this applies to you. Once these steps are completed, please provide your school with your Safe Schools training certificate, and you may begin volunteering.
For information on what opportunities are available at your school, please contact the school secretary or volunteer coordinator.
University student placements are not required to undergo fingerprinting.

Complete the Safe School Training - Before your first volunteer experience, you are required to complete an online orientation that contains information regarding roles, procedures, safety guidelines, and expectations of our parents, community volunteers, coaches, and university student teachers. Please select the appropriate link below to set up your online training account with Vector SafeSchools.
Individuals who will be volunteering as a coach of any OSAA school-sponsored sport must register using this link.
Individuals who will be volunteering in any other capacity or are a university students must register using this link.

Please plan to provide a copy of your training certificate upon your first volunteer opportunity each year. In addition, you must renew your application every two years and complete the volunteer orientation yearly.
The only exception to the Vector SafeSchools yearly training requirement is for individuals receiving this approval notice as a Eugene School District 4J contractor or a current Eugene School District 4J staff member.

To prioritize the safety and welfare of students and staff, all individuals, as determined by the district, must undergo criminal records checks and fingerprinting as required by law.
For volunteers, a criminal records check based on fingerprinting is required for the following positions:
- Coach of a district-sponsored sport.
- Coach of an OSAA activity, including Speech.
- Choreographer, accompanist, or drama coach.
- Overnight chaperone (excluding K-12 students).
- Volunteers with direct, unsupervised contact with students at least four times per month, in a location other than a common area of a school.
- Carpool Volunteer
- Outdoor School Volunteer
If you've been fingerprinted through another K-12 school in Oregon and haven't moved out of state, you're only required to be reprinted if we cannot confirm your past fingerprint status. Complete the FINGERPRINT-BASED CRIMINAL HISTORY CLEARANCE REQUEST and email it to hr@4j.lane.edu for clearance confirmation.
Criminal record checks based on fingerprinting are conducted by the Department of State Police as provided in ORS 181A.195, with a current service fee of $70.00. Payments can be made in person at the HR/Finance Resource Center or online for volunteers.

Outdoor School Fingerprinting Instructions:
Fingerprinting costs are partially covered for outdoor school volunteers, please click on this link to pay $1. Enter your email to receive a receipt and instructions for scheduling your Field Print appointment. Field Print charges $12.50 for their services, which will be paid directly when you schedule your appointment.
Please note that fingerprinting must be completed at least 30 days prior to the field trip to allow enough time for the district to receive the results.
