Superintendent’s Welcome Message 2019

Welcome Letter to Families — September 2019

Welcome to the 2019–20 school year! We hope our students, families and staff all had a wonderful summer and are ready for the busy and exciting year ahead in Eugene School District 4J.

The start of the school year is always exciting. This fall, there’s a particular feeling of hope and anticipation in the air because we are looking forward to investing rather than disinvesting in public education in Oregon.

Oregon’s Student Success Act is a new law that provides an historic opportunity to reinvest in our students and our schools. We need your input on how best to invest this new funding to help increase academic achievement, reduce disparities among student groups, and meet students’ behavioral or mental health needs.

This fall we are reaching out to hear from our community, and we especially want to hear from you. We need all voices in this conversation, including those of families and students of color, emerging bilingual students, students with disabilities, students navigating poverty, homelessness or foster care, and other students who have experienced academic disparities.

Please, take 15 minutes to share your thoughts online and/or an hour to join us at a community conversation this fall, and lend your voice to planning for our students’ future success. We value your experience and your insights.

Thank you for the privilege of serving your children, your family and our community. Together, we will make 2019–20 a terrific school year and support your student to succeed every day.
