Toolkit for School Teams

Infographic showing the 4J MTSS Teams, including Equity & Inclusion, Climate & Culture, Student Intervention, and Grade/Subject Teams.

The MTSS framework is built on a teaming structure referred to as a Universal Leadership model. This model helps ensure all schools have the essential teams, systems, and practices in place to address school improvement goals, student safety and well-being, and academic achievement.

  • The Climate & Culture team collaborates to ensure installation of positive, preventative, and restorative practices through implementation of the school’s Climate & Culture plan. This team includes a wide representation of school staff who consistently review school-wide data, develop plans to address areas of need, and ensure the school is a welcoming and safe place for all students and staff.

  • The Equity & Inclusion team serves as the “guiding coalition” for the building. Comprising representatives from each collaborative teacher team and administration, this team’s primary responsibility is to unite and coordinate implementation of the School Continuous Improvement Plan across grade levels, departments, and subject areas.

  • The Student Intervention Team (SIT) is a collaborative, general education solution-generating team made up of a variety of school perspectives. The purpose of the SIT is to support teachers in reflecting on and enhancing their Tier 1 practices and implementing targeted Tier II and III behavior and Tier III academic interventions when needed. Utilizing an equity lens, the team considers each student when making decisions that affect their long-term educational experience and sense of belonging in 4J. SIT works to provide every student and adult with what they need to thrive in the general education setting.
