Summer Programs in Full Swing

Classes and activities are enriching learning for students at all levels

There’s so much going on for students and staff in Eugene School District 4J,  it might be easy to forget it’s summer break.

The district and its educators and partners are offering dozens of free, fun and enriching classes, programs and activities to bolster students’ learning, well-being and social skills as they prepare for a return to full-time, in-person learning this fall. More 4J students than ever are able to participate in these new and expanded summer offerings, thanks to increased funding related to the pandemic.

Schools are every level are abuzz with activity. The high school intensive program is running throughout July and August, with almost 50 short courses on interesting topics that students entering grades 9–12 can complete for credit. Middle school enrichment programs for 4J students entering grades 6–8 have just gotten started, with nearly 30 enriching short classes including robotics, culinary science, creative writing, introduction to skateboarding, and photography, to name just a few. Summer reading programs are underway, providing a four-week program for more than 400 selected elementary students, targeted to help boost their reading and writing skills and confidence so they can start the new school year strong.

It’s not too late to sign up for one of these exciting opportunities. With more than a month until school starts, there are still some openings to finish out the summer with free activities that engage students’ minds and re-engage them with their peers. Sign up today!
