Teacher Contract Agreement Approved

Teachers, school board have approved key economic provisions to extend contract for 2020–21

Eugene School District 4J and its teachers’ union, the Eugene Education Association, have reached a contract agreement.

The teacher contract extension agreement:
• Extends the 2017–2020 collective bargaining agreement through June 30, 2021
• Provides a cost of living increase of 1.75%
• Increases the district’s health insurance contribution by $30 per employee per month
• Provides for future work to adjust athletics and teacher leadership stipends to address pay equity and other considerations

The agreement was reached by the 4J and EEA bargaining teams in early September, ratified by teachers on September 11 and approved by the school board on September 16.

EEA and district representatives continue to negotiate about working conditions unique to distance learning and the district’s implementation of state guidance for school operations during the coronavirus pandemic.

The collective bargaining agreement applies to 4J’s teachers and other licensed professionals, such as school nurses and counselors, who are represented by the Eugene Education Association (EEA).
