Alternative high school program starts year with new building
Eugene School District 4J’s ECCO alternative high school program has a new home in downtown Eugene. ECCO relocated this fall from the Lane Community College (LCC) campus to the downtown area, next to the district office building at 200 North Monroe Street.
The district contracted with Modern Building Systems to erect a high-quality pre-fabricated building over the spring and summer to serve as ECCO’s new home. The new school building is located to the northeast of the 4J Education Center, near the city’s Owen Rose Garden.
ECCO’s new building has six classrooms, a childcare room, support areas, school office space and a common area. The existing kitchen facility at the Education Center is providing students with healthy and fresh school meals.
The alternative high school program was housed at LCC for six years until district’s lease agreement expired at the end of the 2018–19 school year. Several sites were evaluated as the new home for ECCO and a new building at the 4J Education Center site was determined to be the most accessible for students from across the district who enroll in the alternative high school program.
ECCO will continue to serve current students attending the program and other students who find a separate alternative high school setting their best fit to help them succeed.

El programa de preparatoria alternativa ECCO del Distrito Escolar de Eugene 4J tiene un nuevo hogar en el centro educativo de Eugene. ECCO se mudó este otoño del campus de Lane Community College (LCC) al centro de la ciudad, junto al edificio de oficinas del distrito en el 200 North Monroe Street.
El distrito contrató a Modern Building Systems para erigir un edificio prefabricado de alta calidad durante la primavera y el verano para que sirviera como el nuevo hogar de ECCO. El nuevo edificio escolar está ubicado al noreste del Education Center de 4J, cerca del Owen Rose Garden de la ciudad.
El nuevo edificio de ECCO tiene seis aulas, una sala de cuidado de niños, áreas de apoyo, espacio para oficinas escolares y un área común. La instalación de cocina existente en el Centro de Educación proporciona a los estudiantes comidas escolares saludables y frescas.
El programa de preparatoria alternativa estuvo alojado en LCC durante seis años hasta que el contrato de arrendamiento del distrito venció al final del año escolar 2018-19. Se evaluaron varios sitios como el nuevo hogar de ECCO y se determinó que un nuevo edificio en el sitio del Centro de Educación 4J es el más accesible para los estudiantes de todo el distrito que se inscriben en el programa de escuela secundaria alternativa.
ECCO continuará sirviendo a los estudiantes actuales que asisten al programa y a otros estudiantes que sienten que la preparatoria alternativa separada es a la que mejor se adaptan para tener éxito.
