Future Chefs Culinary Competition - April 27th, 2013

During the month of March, many events like this one took place across the nation. Here are some fun facts regarding them:

79 events, just like ours
In 27 states
Representing 230 middle schools
With 680 kids participating
Who were selected from nearly 2600 recipes submitted

the winning recipe from our Finalist (who won an iPod Touch) was submitted for a regional competition along with the other winners from the 79 competitions. This was narrowed down to regional winners (see below), who won a 3M Camcorder Projector Shoot 'n Share! These winners will be narrowed down to five final competitors, who will have their recipes reproduced on YouTube for the country to vote on for a National winner.

Congratulations to all of you that participated. The current content is the 2011 finalist videos, but the new videos will go live with links to the voting key survey page on Friday, April 20.

NEXT YEAR- we will again move back to the 4th and 5th grade format for a healthy SALAD recipe. Start practicing now!

Each 4th and 5th grade student in Eugene School District will have the opportunity to enter next year's culinary competition. Packets will be sent out to each school 4th and 5th grade classroom, but students can come to this area to download instructions and an entry form here as well. We will select lucky finalists at each school to compete head-to-head in an "Iron Chef" style competition!

Next year's competition is still yet to be decided, but will probably take place in March 2013 at a location that will also be decided later.

Eugene's grand prize winner chosen at the cook-off will compete regionally and nationally against approximately 98 other school districts who are doing the same event! The winner's creations of the top level will be featured on Sodexo's national menu cycle!
