CP09-08027P Food Service Assistant I Pool

The Food Service Assistant I performs a variety of food preparation tasks of limited complexity that can be easily learned.  The position is expected to maintain sanitation standards and perform other related work as required. Although some food preparation is part of the job, emphasis is on work routines such as cleaning, sanitizing, storing, serving, and sales. 

1. Assemble meals and ala carte servings, such as sandwiches, salads, and fruit dishes. Cut prepared foods and vegetables to appropriate portions. Heat prepared foods such as pizza, corn dogs, burritos, and bagels.
2. Set up and prepare serving areas. Serve clients, clean and sanitize kitchen and eating areas. Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils and cooking equipment.
3. Load, unload, and store food and cleaning supplies to maintain acceptable inventory levels.
4. Make monetary change as necessary and perform banking activities. Count USDA Child Nutrition program tickets for accurate reporting.
5. Provides exceptional customer service.
6. Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
7. Contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment.
8. Upholds the highest ethical standards for public employees.
9. Demonstrates a commitment to equity and diversity in everyday work.
10. May assist in training new employees, temporaries and student helpers.
11. Other duties as assigned.

• Ability to do simple arithmetic computations, calculations and money changes.
• Ability to read and follow instructions related to safety, sanitation regulations, and all other applicable rules and regulations.
• Ability to adapt to work routines and perform work independent of direct supervision.
• Ability to be organized and maintain a sanitary environment.
• Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse range of staff, students, administrators and others.
• Ability to move and transport food and kitchen supply inventories with or without reasonable accommodation.

No experience in institutional food service is required. 

• Ability to obtain and maintain a State Food Handlers' Certificate before date of hire is a condition of employment. 
• Must pass criminal background check.
