Getting Started Navigating the 4J Benefits Web Pages

Since benefits vary by employee group, you typically want to start by selecting the menu item that corresponds to your employee group from the blue list on the left. The links below have also been provided for your convenience:

Administrative Benefits Classified Benefits Licensed Benefits Licensed Sub Benefits

Then you can focus in on specific topics in the submenu knowing the answers pertain to your group.  Broader topics that apply to all employee groups can also be found in the blue menu on the left, such as "Forms" and "FAQs" (Frequently Asked Questions).

Search for Keywords

A quick way to find the information you need is to use the search box in the upper-right corner of this page.  Just type in a word or phrase and click the "Search" button.  This will pull up a list of every page on the 4J site containing that word or phrase.

Employee Benefits: Retirees Special Notes

If a retiree or a retiree's insurance-eligible spouse becomes eligible for Medicare due to disability, the retiree or the retiree's spouse qualifies for Medicare supplemental coverage reimbursement. Eligibility ends when the retiree or spouse reaches age 65.

When a retiree or his/her spouse becomes Medicare eligible at age 65, or due to disability at any age, his/her eligibility for district retiree insurance coverage ends. But in the case of a retiree who becomes Medicare eligible at age 65 and who has a younger spouse or domestic partner covered under their district insurance plan, the spouse or domestic partner is eligible to remain on the district retiree coverage, on a self pay basis, until he or she becomes Medicare eligible. The process requires that a change of enrollment be completed so that the spouse or domestic partner can be assigned his/her own ID number. A premium payment arrangement also needs to be put in place with the Employee Benefits Office.

Retirees have the option of waiving dental coverage while continuing medical coverage. However, it is CRITICAL you note that you may not then re-elect dental coverage at any future Open Enrollments.  The only opportunity for a retiree to re-elect dental coverage after waiving is if the retiree loses other group dental coverage and submits a change form within 31 days of the loss.
