Wondering About Weather? Sign Up for Text-Message Alerts

[Información en Español]

To receive alerts about weather-related school closures and schedule changes, follow @4Jweather on Twitter and direct tweets to your mobile device. This service is free, except for standard text messaging rates as determined by your cell phone plan.

I do already have a Twitter account.

It is impossible to guarantee text message delivery 100% of the time, and your alert may be delayed or blocked — so if you are concerned about the weather and have not received an alert, it’s still a good idea to check the 4J website, radio or TV for information about closures, delays or snow routes.

I do have a Twitter account.

Great. Just follow @4Jweather and direct tweets to your mobile device.

To connect your phone to your Twitter account, you can

  • add your mobile number in your account’s Mobile Settings or
  • send a text message with the word START to Twitter’s short code, 40404, and then respond to Twitter’s text messages asking for your username and password and confirming that you want to use Twitter with that phone.

Once your phone is added to your account, send another text message saying “FOLLOW 4Jweather” (no quotes) to 40404. You will then receive a confirmation message that you are signed up to receive 4J school closure alerts on your mobile phone.

To unsubscribe, send "UNFOLLOW 4Jweather" (no quotes) to 40404.
