Request to Speak to School Board

The Eugene School Board values community engagement and recognizes the importance of public input on issues affecting the community, the school board and our Eugene public schools. There is a time for public comments scheduled near the beginning of each regular board meeting, which are usually held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 7 p.m. Community members also may send written comments to board@4j.lane.edu.
Board Meeting Schedule & Materials

Request to provide public comment: Community members who wish to speak to the board must sign up before the meeting. To request to provide public comment in the next regular board meeting, submit this form by 5 p.m. on the Monday before the meeting. Speakers have the choice of providing public comment in-person at the board meeting or online via Zoom.

After your request: Up to 10 community members will be scheduled to provide public comment at each meeting, with a 3-minute time limit per speaker. If more than 10 people request to speak, priority will be given to residents who did not provide public comment during the previous two meetings, then the selection of speakers will be determined randomly. District staff will contact you after the request deadline, before the board meeting, to inform you if you have been scheduled to speak and how to attend the meeting.

Topic of comments: Comments do not need to be related to items on the meeting agenda. Please be aware that the school board is a policy-making body and does not direct or decide the day-to-day operations of the district. Most concerns are best resolved by communication with the individual employee, school or department directly involved in the issue, or with the school principal or program administrator. Complaints about individual employees should be directed to the supervisor or superintendent’s office, not to the board, as a personnel matter. Information about the district’s complaint process is at www.4j.lane.edu/complaints.

Attend without comment: If you do not want to provide public comment to the board, but want to attend the meeting in-person, use this form instead to submit your request by 5 p.m. on the Monday before the meeting.
