International Student Exchange Program

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR

Eugene School District 4J is not accepting application for the 2020-2021 school year. The district has decided to suspend the International Student Exchange program for the 2020-2021 school year. 


Eugene School District 4J collaborates with CSIET approved organizations to provide an educational and cultural experience to students wishing to attend public high school for up to one school year. Eugene School District 4J strives to adhere to the recommendations set forth in the Model School Policy by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET).

Eugene School District 4J hosts 32 international students; eight students at each of our four high schools: South Eugene, North Eugene, Churchill, and Sheldon. International students are not eligible to receive a high school diploma from Eugene School District 4J.

In order to be accepted into a 4J school, an international student must:

  • be proficient in the English language
  • apply to attend for no longer than one year
  • have confirmed hosted residence(s) in the school region for the duration of their stay

Important Dates and Application

Applications are accepted annually for international exchange students. Applications must include the Eugene School District 4J application form in addition to forms required by a sponsoring organization.

Important Dates:

  • April 1: International student application available for download.
  • April 15 – July 15: Applications accepted at Eugene School District in printed form at 200 North Monroe Street, Eugene OR 97402 during business hours Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Applications will not be accepted in electronic, e-mail or faxed format.

Applications are screened for compliance with district procedures before referring those who meet requirements to building principals for their approval review. Students or sponsoring organizations representatives will be notified of receipt of application and review outcome by email.

F-1 Visa and I-20 Forms

Tuition-paying students applying with an F-1 visa must submit a completed application and other pertinent information directly to the Eugene School District. An I-20 form will be issued only to tuition paying students after they have been accepted by the Instruction Department and the school principal. Tuition for these students must be paid in advance to the I-20 being issued. For more information, please contact schoolchoice@4j.lane.edu.
