Enrolling in Kindergarten

Registering for kindergarten in 2021–22: School buildings are closed to visitors due to the coronavirus pandemic.  Families may register students for the 2021–22 school year by submitting enrollment forms and materials online or on paper. Please call or email your school if you have questions. (2021 Enrollment)

Age requirement: To enroll in kindergarten, your student must be 5 years old on or before September 1 of the school year. If you are interested in early entry for the 2021-22 school year, please complete an early admission request form. However, at this time we are unsure if early entry will take place. If you submit a request form, you will be notified when we know more about early entry plans. (Early Entry)

When to enroll: Schools ask parents to register their new kindergarten students before summer break. Every school holds a kindergarten orientation event in the spring when parents can visit their new school, meet the teachers and staff and enroll for the fall.

Where to enroll: Every residence in the Eugene School District is in the attendance area of a neighborhood elementary, middle and high school. Most families send their children to their neighborhood schools, which offer many advantages. Find My School.

You may also transfer to a different neighborhood school or to one of the district’s alternative schools. Requests are granted through an annual process each winter and spring (starting in January) for the following school year. (School Choice)

Families who live outside of the district’s boundary may apply for a transfer to Eugene School District 4J. (Interdistrict Transfers)

How to enroll: For more information about enrolling your child in kindergarten, please see How To Enroll.
