Masks Required for Health & Safety

Students must wear face masks to get on bus or come to school

Eugene School District 4J is excited to welcome students back to school in-person full-time.

To protect the health and safety of students and staff, and as required by state and federal regulations, everyone must wear face coverings properly at all times while indoors, and outdoors when 6 feet of physical distance can’t be maintained.

While most students are already used to wearing face masks, for others this will be a new experience. Students returning to in-person learning should understand and be ready to follow these simple rules:

  • TEXT IN IMAGE: Coming to School? Wear Your Mask! Everyone, all the time: Face coverings must be worn indoors byall students and all staff all the time, with very limited exceptions. Wear it right: Face masks must fit snugly and cover the nose, mouth and chin. E ffective design: NO gaiter or bandana-type face coverings, masks with valves, or face shields in place of masks. Bring a spare: Pack an extra mask or two in your student's backpackin case the one they are wearing gets dirty or wet. Extras available: If your student needs a face covering, ask your school. If they arrive without a mask, they'll be provided one to wear. Studentscan't come into school or get on the bus without a face mask. Take a break: Times when students can take off their face mask occurduring the day, such as eating meals and playing or learning outdoorswhile 6+ feet apart. Other "mask breaks" will not be provided indoors. *In case of a disability needing accommodation, discuss with your student's IEP or 504 team.Face masks must be worn on the bus and in school all the time.
  • Face masks may be removed only when guided by school staff, at certain limited times such as recess or meals.
  • Face masks must be worn properly, covering the nose, mouth and chin at all times.
  • Face masks must be an effective design. Masks should fit snugly. Not allowed are gaiters, bandanas, masks with vents, valves or holes, or face shields alone (face shields may be worn in addition to masks).

Families are encouraged to pack an extra mask or two in their student’s backpack in case it’s needed. If you need a face covering provided for your student, ask your school.

Masks must be worn to get on the bus or come into school. If a student gets to school or the bus stop without their mask, they will be provided with a disposable one.

If a student will not wear a face mask properly they will be sent home from school or, if on the bus, may lose bus riding privileges. Parents who do not want their student to wear a face mask should request to enroll in online learning, or contact the Lane Education Service District to register their student if they prefer to homeschool.

Thank you for helping your student be prepared, safe and comfortable in their return to in-person learning.
