Safe and Healthy Schools: COVID-19 Protocols and Plans

Comprehensive COVID-19 plan updated for new school year

Eugene School District 4J’s comprehensive COVID-19 Communicable Disease Management Plan has been updated for the new school year. State requirements and recommendations for reducing the spread of COVID-19 in schools have changed significantly since last year. The district’s plan for 2021–22 reflects changes in guidance and key practices for schools.

4J’s plan prioritizes the return to full-time, in-person instruction, as required for all Oregon school districts. It outlines health and safety protocols for district staff, students and community members across 4J schools, buildings and programs, including community-based programs located in school buildings.

Health and safety protocols include:

  • Face masks required indoors for all students and staff
  • Vaccination to be required for staff and volunteers
  • Optional weekly COVID-19 testing for students
  • 3 feet of physical distancing to the extent possible
  • Ventilation upgrades including bipolar ionization air purifying units installed in all schools’ HVAC systems
  • Routine cleaning of high-touch surfaces
  • Frequent handwashing
