Free Weekly Food Boxes Available in August

Free meal boxes for youth can be picked up at four school sites on Wednesdays through August 18

There’s still time to pick up free weekly food boxes for 4J students and other youth as they enjoy their last full month of summer break.

Meal boxes can be picked up on Wednesday, August 4, 11 and 18, from 12–1 p.m., at four school sites across the district: Arts & Technology Academy, Cal Young Middle School, Madison Middle School and South Eugene High School.

Any remaining food boxes not distributed on Wednesday will be available for pickup at the district office on Thursdays, 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m., while supplies last.

The weekly food box is filled with fixings for seven days of breakfasts and lunches—including fruits, vegetables, milk, sandwich makings, and breakfast foods such as scones or cereal. Vegetarian, made-without-gluten, and soy milk options are available.

Families can pick up meals at any location regardless of where they live or attend school. Free food boxes are provided for all 4J students and all youth age 18 and under. There are no income requirements and no application or pre-registration process.

After the week of August 18, there will be a break in meal service as 4J’s nutrition services team prepares for the fall return to school. Families may access free meals through other local programs, including Food for Lane County’s summer meal program.

When students return to school on-site in September, free meals will be available to all students in 4J schools throughout the 2021–22 school year, thanks to the extension of a federal program that makes it possible to provide free meals without application requirements.

Eugene School District 4J has provided more than two million free nutritious meals to local youth since March 2020.

Free Meal Box Pickup:
Wednesday, August 4, 11 & 18, 12–1 p.m.
• Arts & Technology Academy, 1650 W. 22nd Ave.
• Cal Young Middle School, 2555 Gilham Road
• Madison Middle School, 875 Wilkes Drive
• South Eugene High School, 400 E. 19th Ave.

Second Chance: Any remaining food boxes will be available for pickup behind the district office, 200 N. Monroe St., on Thursdays between 7:30 a.m.–6 p.m., while supplies last. Normally pickup is at the back of the building. On Thursday, August 5, the pickup location will be at the southwest of the building near the entrance from Monroe Street, due to paving work in the usual pickup location.
