School Board Welcomes Community to Public Meetings

Community members can attend and testify in-person at board meetings starting Aug. 4 • Requests must be submitted in advance due to limited space

Eugene School District 4J’s Board of Directors will resume meeting with community members attending in-person for the first time in more than a year, starting on Wednesday, August 4, with a work session scheduled at 5:30 p.m. and the regular board meeting beginning at 7 p.m.

Community members interested in attending the sessions in-person must submit a request in advance, as seating is limited due to COVID-19. 4J’s physical distancing protocols will remain in effect during upcoming board meetings. If more people request to attend the meeting in-person than can be accommodated, priority will be given to individuals who have not recently attended a board meeting in-person.

The board will hear public testimony from community members both in-person and virtually via Zoom. Up to 10 people will be scheduled to provide public comment, whether in-person or virtually, at each regular meeting. To ensure a diversity of voices, priority will be given to residents who have not provided public comment in a recent meeting. Board members also read written comments sent to board@4j.lane.edu.

Requests to provide public comment or attend a board meeting in-person must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on the Monday before the meeting.

School board meetings will continue to be open to the public in real-time via video stream on Zoom, audio stream on the district website, and radio broadcast on KRVM 1280-AM. Audio recordings of board meetings also are posted online within 48 hours following the meeting.

Members of the school board resumed meeting in-person in March, after holding virtual sessions for more than a year to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to comply with Gov. Kate Brown’s executive orders during the height of the pandemic. Community members were able to listen and watch the proceedings virtually during this time.
