Local Contractor Joins Camas Ridge Project Team

Experienced local firm chosen to manage construction of new elementary school

The new Camas Ridge Elementary School building is one step closer to reality with the selection of the construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) for the project.

Chambers Construction, a local construction company founded in 1955, will coordinate the planning and construction of the new school building alongside Pivot Architecture. Chambers Construction is an experienced partner on numerous past 4J projects, including the construction of three new elementary school facilities for River Road/El Camino del Río Elementary School, Holt Elementary School and Chávez Elementary School, and Gilham Elementary School’s second phase expansion underway now. Additional local projects of note include the Oakway Heritage Courtyard, Oakway Center Hyatt Place Hotel and the Moshofsky Center at Autzen Stadium.

Chambers Construction’ CM/GC proposal was ranked highest by the selection committee after a review of proposals from several firms and interviews with top candidates. Contract negotiations were completed successfully and the school board approved awarding of the contract to the selected firm.

CM/GCs are brought on early in the design process to work with the architects and the district to analyze building systems, provide cost estimates, develop construction schedules, plan for the anticipated months of construction, and help ensure that the school expansion project will be completed on time and within budget.

The district, the architect team, and the construction manager/general contractor will work as a team throughout the design and construction process with subcontractors selected through a publicly advertised, competitive solicitation process.

The approval of the 2018 school bond measure funded three new school buildings to replace aging facilities and other capital improvements. The new Camas Ridge Elementary School will be designed for safety and security, efficiency and sustainability, and modern teaching and learning. Construction will begin in 2022–23 and the new building will open in fall 2024. It will be a high-quality learning environment for students now and for generations to come.
