Weekly Youth Meal Boxes Offered at 7 Sites

Free meal boxes available for pickup Wednesdays at Cal Young, Howard, Kennedy, Madison, Monroe, Roosevelt, Spencer Butte

Eugene School District 4J is offering free grab-and-go meal boxes for 4J students and other youth every Wednesday. No application or pre-registration is required.

Meal boxes can be picked up between 12:45–2:15 p.m. on Wednesdays at seven school sites across the district: Howard Elementary School and Cal Young, Kennedy, Madison, Monroe, Roosevelt and Spencer Butte Middle School. Meal pickup at the Kelly Middle School site was closed last week due to a facility issue, and starting this week will move next door to Howard Elementary School.

Families can pick up meals at any location regardless of where they live or attend school. Families who are not able to pick up a meal box at the scheduled time can email 4jmeals@4j.lane.edu and request to pick up a meal box at the district office at a different time.

The weekly meal box features “heat and eat” meals. Each box contains four days of breakfasts and lunches, plus five dinner meals. Vegetarian, made-without-gluten, and soy milk options are available.

Free meals are provided for all 4J students and all youth age 18 and under. There are no income requirements and no application process.

Since March 2020, Eugene School District 4J has provided about 1.9 million free nutritious meals to local children and youth. Free meals will be available this summer and throughout the 2021–22 school year, thanks to the extension of a federal program that makes it possible to provide free meals for all students and youth without application requirements.
