Sheldon Football Temporary Suspended Due to COVID-19 Case

Team activities may resume March 14

Eugene School District 4J has temporarily suspended football activities at Sheldon High School due to an identified case of COVID-19.

The district is working closely with Lane County Public Health to respond to this case, assist with contact tracing, and protect the health of our community.

In consultation with public health officials, the district has determined and notified players’ families that Sheldon football activities will be paused for two weeks from the last known potential exposure. Practices and activities may resume starting Sunday, March 14.

Although this pause will be a disappointment for some student athletes and families, it is important to protect the health and safety of our students and community.

The success of all on-site school sports and academic opportunities is dependent upon everyone in our community doing their part to limit the transmission of COVID-19. Standard health and safety measures are essential, including wearing face coverings, maintaining physical distance as much as possible, practicing good hand hygiene, cooperating with contact tracing if contacted by district or public health officials, and continuing to follow other recommendations for public health—both on the field and off.

For more detailed information about protective measures in 4J schools please refer to the district’s COVID-19 Communicable Disease Management Plan and Outdoor Contact Sports Opt-In Plan available on this website. (4J Health & Safety Plans)
