Classified Employees Appreciation Week

School support staff honored in annual appreciation week

March 1–5 is Classified Employees Appreciation Week. Each year at this time, Eugene School District 4J joins school districts across Oregon in honoring our classified staff who work to make our schools great places to teach and learn, whether in person or from a distance.

These hardworking, impactful employees perform critical work every day that is essential to our educational mission. During this past year, classified staff have provided invaluable support to students, families and staff, enabling them to continue learning and working during the pandemic which has so greatly altered school operations and all aspects of our normal lives.

Classified employees have prepared and distributed more than a million nutritious meals to our community’s youth, cleaned work spaces to protect the health of students and staff working in school buildings, aided teachers and students while learning online, supervised students on-site for limited in-person instruction, beautified school grounds, distributed and maintained thousands of tablets and laptops, connected hundreds of families to the internet, offered tech support so that students and staff can continue to learn and work from home, provided invaluable assistance to families in need, and taken on new and different duties to help the school district function during the pandemic. Other classified staff work to ensure that our curriculum, warehouse, fleet, payroll and other school and district systems function well so that we—students, families and staff—can get through this together.

Whatever their specific role, our classified staff members serve as the vital backbone of our 4J team. Our educational system could not function without them.

THANK YOU, 4J classified employees. We appreciate you!
