Planning for Return to School

Oregon schools may have online or on-site learning, or a blend of both • Full online option available for 4J students

Oregon students’ return to school in the fall may look different, such as a blend of on-site classes and online learning, with smaller groups, physical distancing and other precautions.

Eugene School District 4J is in the process of developing a comprehensive plan for returning to school in the fall, in alignment with requirements and recommendations from the Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority.

The district’s plan will address a variety of issues, including how to ensure students can engage effectively in teaching and learning, how to safely distance students and staff when they are at school, and how students will get to and from school.

The state released guidance in mid-June to inform school districts’ planning for welcoming students back in the fall. The guidance describes detailed requirements and recommendations for returning to school either on-site, fully online, or using a hybrid approach. Each district and school will complete and submit by mid-August an Operational Blueprint for Reentry that is informed by local resources and needs, and addresses eight essential elements, including public health protocols, instruction, equity, and outbreak response.

Thank you for your patience and grace as schools across Oregon navigate how to safely and effectively return to school in the fall. The district will keep families informed when details are determined. We look forward to seeing our students back in school as soon and as much as possible given the evolving public health circumstances.
