Fond Farewell to Edison Elementary School Building

Last look at Edison’s 1926 building shared in virtual tour

Edison Elementary School has a long and well-loved history in the south university neighborhood. Edison will continue on, but it’s time to say farewell to the school’s 1926 building with its well-known brick entry facade. The school has the oldest and poorest condition building in the school district and soon will have a new building under construction, thanks to voters’ approval of the 2018 school bond measure.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the school can’t hold a traditional farewell event for student and staff alumni to visit the old school building one last time. We’ve created a virtual tour instead, so staff, families and neighbors who have been a part of Edison’s history over the past 94 years can get one last look.

Click play, and we’ll take you on a five-minute tour through the old Edison building, just as it was on one day in May.

The original Edison building will be removed later this year, and construction of the new building in the same location will begin in early 2021 to be completed by summer 2022. Edison staff and students will move to the Willard site for the 2020–21 and 2021–22 school years, until the new building is ready to move in.
