Contractor Chosen to Build New North Eugene High School

Long established firm with local experience will serve as CM/GC

Planning for the new North Eugene High School is underway. A construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) has been selected to coordinate planning and construction of the new building: Lease Crutcher Lewis (Lewis), a construction company with offices in Eugene, Portland and Seattle, founded in 1886.

Lewis’s numerous high-profile local projects have included PK Park, the Lillis Business Complex, Erb Memorial Union and other buildings at the University of Oregon, the LCC Downtown Campus and Titan Court, the Center Building and other buildings at the Lane Community College main campus, and the EWEB operations building, as well as high schools and other buildings in the Portland and Seattle areas.

Lewis’s proposal was ranked highest by the selection committee that reviewed the proposals from several firms and interviewed top candidates. Contract negotiations were completed successfully and the school board voted in April to approve the selection and award the contract to the selected CM/GC team.

CM/GCs are brought on early in the design process so that the firm can work with the architects and the district to analyze building systems, provide cost estimates, develop construction schedules, plan for the anticipated months of construction, and help ensure that the school replacement projects will be completed on time and within budget.

The district, the architect team, and the selected construction firm will work as a team throughout the design and construction process of the new North Eugene High School. Subcontractors will be selected through a publicly advertised, competitive solicitation process.

Two other school buildings also will be replaced and one will be expanded thanks to voters’ approval of the 2018 school bond measure. The CM/GC for the new Edison Elementary School is local firm John Hyland Construction. Architects and contractors for the expansion of Gilham Elementary School will be selected this spring, and the team for Camas Ridge Elementary School, the last of the three schools to be constructed, will be selected in the fall.
