Contractor Chosen to Build New Edison

Local company will construct new building to replace Eugene’s oldest school

The contractor has been selected to build the new school for Edison Elementary.

The project team for design and construction of the new Edison Elementary School will be formed of the selected construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC), John Hyland Construction; the architect team, Mahlum Architects and Robertson Sherwood Architects; and the district. Subcontractors will be selected at a later date through a publicly advertised, competitive solicitation process.

John Hyland Construction, Inc., is a local general contractor that provides full-service commercial construction and has extensive local experience, with over 300 projects completed in the Eugene area.

Hyland was ranked highest by the selection committee that reviewed proposals from several firms and interviewed top candidates. Contract negotiations were completed and the school board voted in February to approve the selection and award the contract to Hyland.

CM/GCs are brought on early in the design process so that the firm can work with the architects and the district to analyze building systems, provide cost estimates, develop construction schedules, plan for site logistics, and help ensure that the school replacement projects will be completed on time and within budget.

Two other school buildings also will be replaced thanks to voters’ approval of the 2018 school bond measure. The CM/GC for the new North Eugene High School will be selected soon. Architects and contractors for Camas Ridge Elementary School, the last of the three schools to be constructed, will be solicited and selected at a future point.
