4J Seeks Architects for Edison Elementary School

District is soliciting architect proposals to design new school

Voters in Eugene School District 4J resoundingly passed the school bond measure in November 2018 to fund capital improvements for 4J schools. Bond funds will be used to construct new school buildings for three schools with aging facilities, repair schools, improve security, update technology and learning materials, support career technical education, and more. Every school will benefit.

Before building the new schools, they must first be designed. The district will select architects this spring to design the first new schools.

The architect team for North Eugene High School will be selected first. The district is reviewing Statements of Qualification submitted by architectural firms licensed in Oregon to provide architectural, engineering and other consulting services.

The Edison architect team will be the second to be selected. Statements of Qualification from architectural firms are being accepted now until Friday, May 24, at 12:00 p.m. Architect proposals must address sustainability and efficiency, certify non-discrimination in employment practices, and identify their resident status.

Before school design work begins, community meetings will be held to consider the historic appearance of the old school and discuss how to move forward with designing a new school for this neighborhood.
