Budget Committee

The 4J Budget Committee reviews the proposed budget, listens to comments from community members, and then approves the budget total to forward to the school board for adoption. The committee reviews the proposal to ensure that the district is planning to spend money in furtherance of expressly stated district goals.


The committee meets 3–4 times during the winter and spring, typically on Monday evenings. Additional meetings may be scheduled based on the information needs of the Budget Committee.

The budget committee encourages community members to attend and allows time at each meeting for public testimony. For information about how to provide testimony, jump to: Public Comment to Budget Committee.


The committee is made up of the district’s 7-member board of directors and an equal number of district residents appointed by the board. Members of the budget committee are appointed by open vote of the school board as openings occur. They serve for three-year terms and receive no compensation for their services. Budget committee members must reside within school district boundaries, must be registered to vote, and may not be district employees.

Community members are welcome to attend budget committee meetings and may request to provide public comment to the committee.


Submit requests to speak to the budget committee by noon on the day of the meeting. District staff will contact requesters after the deadline to notify them whether they have been scheduled to provide public comment via Zoom and how to attend the meeting online.
