Year One (2002-2003) Goals and Activities

Build communications lines between K-12 schools

  • developed communication lines between previously autonomous K-12 schools in region
  • established regular K-12 meetings
  • emphasis on communicating levels perspective and developing cross-level relationships
  • developing articulation by identifying gaps
  • awareness change to attend to low achieving students

Develop learning community among staff K-12

  • establish pattern of learning together, K-12
  • administrators from all regional schools attended ASCD conference together
  • attending same learning sessions
  • building relationships (particularly with the many new administrators in the region)

Focus staff development on brain compatible learning

  • focus of staff development (teachers and administrators) for year

Identify emerging teacher leaders and empower

  • sent a regional administrator from each level as well as a teacher from elementary and middle levels to a major conference in Phoenix on brain compatible learning
  • began developing a "trainer-of-trainers" model
