The
second Friday in October is reserved for public school educators'
professional development in the state of Oregon. This year, the Eugene
School District 4J funded five
local workshops for classified and certified staff, and two for
administrators which are supportive of Wallace Grant Goals. These
offerings were in addition to various educational workshops offered
throughout the state. Below are workshop pictures and links to resources.

teams to articulate curriculum across and between grades.
|

At
the Conveners & Facilitators workshop, people reflect
on questions such as: Do you have meetings that take too long?
Do you have members that arrive late or leave early?
|

Here
Eugene Cadre members Todd Hamilton and Bill Kentta provide
opportunities to practice skills and dialogue with to address
questions and concerns about convening and facilitating.
|

Do
you need a few more tools to feel confident leading meetings?
Here participants learn information, strategies, and tools
for effective convening and facilitating.
|

In
the Tribes workshop, Julie Sowerby teaches how to build a
democratic community in their classroom, which establishes
the safe learning environment necessary before any “real”
learning can happen.
|

Handouts
of the PowerPoint presentation help people keep track of concepts.
For further information, see the
Tribes link.
|

Participants
will walk away from this day energized and with hands-on strategies
to help build inclusion while integrating curriculum.
|

Across
town at the new Madison Middle School, administrators learn
about SIOP: Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol.
|

Abby
Lane reviews what we know about what facilitates language
learning for English as a second (or third!) language learners.

|

Administrators
