Black History - Web Links

  • African American Mosaic - A Library of Congress Resource Guide for the Study of Black History and Culture.
  • Black History: Patchwork of African American Life - This collection of educational Web activities showcases five different ways the World Wide Web can be integrated into classroom learning. From a simple hot list of Black History links, to an educational videoconference, these activities are of varying complexity. My favorites are the Subject Sampler (find a topic that touches you emotionally), Interactive Treasure Hunt (What was it that made Nat Turner lead his famous revolt?) and Tuskegee Tragedy WebQuest (How does this tragedy compare to other historic tragedies?)
  • Encyclopedia Britannica's Guide to Black History - Encyclopædia Britannica's Guide to Black History represents an effort to trace the African American experience and achievements in the United States and elsewhere.
  • History Channel: Black History Month - A rememberance to the important people and events in African-American history.
Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Day of Service - In 1994 Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act, designating the King Holiday as a national day of volunteer service. Instead of a day off from work or school, Congress asked Americans of all backgrounds and ages to celebrate Dr. King's legacy by turning community concerns into citizen action.
