Minority Student Achievement Network

The mission of the Minority Student Achievement Network (MSAN) is to discover, develop, and implement the means to ensure high academic achievement for students of color, specifically African American and Latino students.

Each year, a student conference is held where teams of students of member district schools attend and engage in discussion and planning for follow-up activities related to improving the effectiveness of their schools to educate African American and Latino students. A guiding belief of MSAN is to provide opportunities to hear the student voices.

4J students participated in the recent "Raising the Roof" MSAN Conference in Eugene by two special sessions titled “Student and Family Panel” and “Student Voices,” a presentation by 4J MSAN students. Some student members of MSAN participated in the recent Peacemakers Conference held at Lane Community College and in Portland.

At the Eugene School Board meeting on Nov. 28, 4J MSAN students and staff shared highlights from the 8th Annual Student Conference which was held in Arlington, Virginia on Oct. 17-20, and their newly developed action plan for increasing student achievement. Also, staff shared future goals for establishing a district-wide steering committee and MSAN Data Watch Project.
