Employee Benefits: Retirees Special Notes

If a retiree or a retiree's insurance-eligible spouse becomes eligible for Medicare due to disability, the retiree or the retiree's spouse qualifies for Medicare supplemental coverage reimbursement. Eligibility ends when the retiree or spouse reaches age 65. Please call the Employee Benefits Office at (541) 687-3491 for more information.
When a retiree or his/her spouse becomes Medicare eligible at age 65, or due to disability at any age, his/her eligibility for district retiree insurance coverage ends. But in the case of a retiree who becomes Medicare eligible at age 65 and who has a younger spouse or domestic partner covered under their district insurance plan, the spouse or domestic partner is eligible to remain on the district retiree coverage, on a self pay basis, until he or she becomes Medicare eligible. The process requires that a change of enrollment be completed so that the spouse or domestic partner can be assigned his/her own ID number. A premium payment arrangement also needs to be put in place with the Employee Benefits Office. Please call Mike Caley at (541) 687-3244 or the Employee Benefits Office (541) 687-3491 if you have questions.

Retirees have the option of waiving dental coverage while continuing medical coverage. However, it is CRITICAL you note that you may not then re-elect dental coverage at any time in the future.
