The City of Eugene and Eugene School District 4J are partnering to place multi-purpose community athletic fields at local middle schools: one each in the South Eugene and Churchill high school regions.
The new fields will be located at Spencer Butte Middle School (500 E. 43rd Ave.) and at The Arts and Technology Academy at Jefferson (1650 W. 22nd Ave.).
These facilities should have the features of fields already open at the new Cal Young and Madison middle schools in the Sheldon and North Eugene regions. The school district is partnering with the City of Eugene on all of these fields, in a cooperative effort to allow the public to get the most use out of our public facilities.
Background
The school district and city held public meetings in September 2007, providing information from architects and generating discussion about where the fields might be placed:
- Tuesday, Sept. 11, 7 p.m., Roosevelt Middle School, 680 E. 24th Ave.
- Tuesday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m., The Arts and Technology Academy at Jefferson, 1650 W. 22nd Ave.
- Tuesday, Sept. 25, 7 p.m., Spencer Butte Middle School, 500 E. 43rd Ave.
The Eugene School Board reviewed public input from the meetings (and comment forms sent via mail or on-line) when it addressed middle school field locations at its Oct. 3 and Oct. 17, 2007 meetings.
