Transfers are appropriate for students who live with their parents within 4J boundaries but want to request a school outside their attendance area. Transfer requests are accepted for the following school year between the first school day in January and the first Friday in March. Transfers are chosen by a lottery method. The lottery is held on the second Friday in March and the results are available a day or two later. Students are accepted into schools on a space available basis. Some grades within a school may be closed before the transfer process takes place due to a full enrollment.
Transfer requests are accepted after the lottery deadline and are added to the bottom of the lists. Transportation is the responsibility of the family. Transfers are valid through each school level unless the family changes their address:
- Elementary level - good through grade 5, then apply at middle school level
- Middle level - good through grade 8, then apply at high school level
- High School level - good through senior year
Transfers are not the same as
exchanges which are for students who want to attend a 4J school but whose parents live outside 4J school district boundaries.
Questions regarding the transfer process should go to the 4J Instruction Department at 687-3631.
