5th Grade Unit 2 – Geometry

Unit Overview

Content Focus –

Students work translating between 2-D and 3-D shapes, structuring rectangular prisms and determining volume.

Looking Back…

In 4th grade, students deepened their understanding of 3-D figures, working to describe and name their components.  They explored volume by analyzing the structure of rectangular prisms.

Looking Forward…

This unit provides the building blocks for students to understand a variety of formulas for calculating the volume of a variety of shapes later in their math education.
