Regional Health Centers

Regional Health Centers are located at each of the regional high schools (see contact numbers below).

Services & Staff:
District 4J operates four school-based health centers that are located at the four regional high schools. The centers are staffed with a school nurse, health clerk, and nurse practitioner. The nurse practitioner can prescribe and treat acute and chronic illness. Preventive physicals and immunizations are available, as are mental health services from mental health therapists. Elementary and middle schools, which do not have regularly assigned school nurses, receive consultation services from the centers when needed. In emergency situations schools contact 911. The four centers also provide health treatment for those students unable to afford medical care. One clinic also remains open for summer health care; call 687-3123 for more information. If obtaining medical care for your child is a hardship, contact the school nurse at your regional high school (see phone numbers below).

Hours:
The Health Center is open during regular school hours, excluding a lunch break at noon. If there is an emergency and the center is closed, notify the high school office or a staff member.

Costs:
Services are provided free of charge to 4J students. Donations to help fund the Center are gratefully accepted and are tax deductible to the extent the law allows.

Confidentiality and Reporting:
The student is the client. Parents are notified of care given only when the student is unsafe to self or others (including suicide threats, high levels of drug or alcohol abuse, eating disorders etc.) or with the student’s permission. Any staff member receiving this information would follow the same guidelines. We encourage students to communicate with parents regarding positive medical tests and other situations. The focus is on empowering students to practice healthy lifestyles. All public employees are required to report suspected abuse regardless of when it happens.
