Enrolling in Kindergarten

Age requirement: To enroll in kindergarten, your student must be 5 years old on or before September 1 of the school year. If your child will turn 5 later in September and you believe he or she would qualify for and benefit from advanced grade placement, you may request early entry for your child.

When to enroll: Schools ask parents to register their new kindergarten students before summer break. Every school holds a kindergarten orientation event in the spring when parents can visit their new school, meet the teachers and staff and enroll for the fall. Please click here for the 2018 orientation schedule or call your school for more details.

Where to enroll: Every residence in the Eugene School District is in the attendance area of a neighborhood elementary, middle and high school. Most families send their children to their neighborhood schools, which offer many advantages. Find My School.

You may also transfer to a different neighborhood school or to one of the district’s alternative schools. Requests are granted through an annual lottery, held each winter for the following school year. Learn about school choice.

Families who live outside of the district’s boundary may apply for an out-of-district transfer.

How to enroll: For more information about enrolling your child in kindergarten, please see How To Enroll.
