Grants
The International Reading Association (IRA)

GoGirlGo! Ambassador Team Awards provide $2,500 awards to female high school sports teams that have completed a project inspiring girls to get involved in sport and physical activity.  Deadline is July 17. The Jenny's Heroes Program

ING-NASPE Run For Something Better School Awards will provide $2,000 awards to schools across the nation that plan to implement ING-RFSB 8-week running programs or longer in grades 5, or 6-8. The Be Heard | School Grant

The Samsung Grant Program

The Dreyer's Foundation makes small grants ($3,000 or less) and donates ice cream products and gift certificates/auction items to nonprofit organizations for events. Digital Wish will award Kidspiration software to four teachers and a digital camera to one teacher who uses Kidspiration (including a free 30-day download from their website for those who do not own it) to design an outstanding lesson plan focusing on Kidspiration. The DEW Foundation

USA Track and Field Foundation

The Bauder Endowment for the Support of Physics Teaching was established to support special activities in the area of physics teaching such as development and distribution of innovative apparatus for physics teaching, local workshops. Bowerman Track Renovation Program

Regence/Blue Cross of Oregon
provides grants of unspecified amounts to support programs and research related to at least one of the Foundation's three program areas: Building Healthier Communities, Transforming Health Care or Improving End-of-Life. American Honda Foundation grants range from $20,000 to $60,000 to K-12 schools and higher education for creative ideas for projects in science and math education.  Projects should be innovative enough to be disseminated and copied nationwide.  Deadlines are rolling.  See http://corporate.honda.com/america/philanthropy.aspx?id=ahf

Albertsons provides donations to nonprofits and schools in its operating communities. Priority areas are environmental stewardship; hunger relief; health and nutrition; and youth and education.  There is no deadline. It takes from six to eight weeks for grant requests to be processed. The Braitmayer Foundation funds K-12 curricular and school reform initiatives up to $35,000.  Grant requests for up to $35,000 are due to the Foundation by June 1.  Grants for up to $10,000 should be submitted by June 1 or November 15. Tony Hawk Foundation provides grants from $1,000 to $25,00 to organizations wishing to build a community skatepark in a low income neighborhood.  Deadlines are March 2 and October 1.  Previous recipients include Springfield, Oregon.  For information see http://www.tonyhawkfoundation.org

The Baseball Tomorrow Fund
provides grants to fund programs, fields and equipment purchases to encourage and maintain youth participation in baseball. The first step in the application process is submitting a brief letter of inquiry, which may be submitted at any time.  If your project is chosen for funding, you will be invited to submit a full proposal, by a deadline of January 1, April 1, July 1 or October 1. Captain Planet Foundation provides $500 for hands-on environmental projects for children and youth. The next deadline is June 30 for projects that begin four months later. Proposals reviewed four times a year. The National Endowment for the Arts announces Learning in the Arts for Children and Youth grants of between $5,000 and $150,000 for programs that advance learning in the arts for children and youth.  A 1-1 match is required (i.e., for a $5,000 grant the applicant must also be providing $5,000 of cash or in-kind contribution to the project).  Projects must be arts-area specific (in 14 areas such as dance, design, literature, film, theater etc.) Deadline is June 11.  For more information, see http://www.arts.endow.gov/grants/apply/Artsed.html

The Nature of Learning Grants Program is soliciting applications from organizations interested in initiating or expanding The Nature of Learning, the National Wildlife Refuge System's community-based environmental education initiative. that seeks to (1) Use National Wildlife Refuges as outdoor classrooms; (2) encourage an interdisciplinary approach to learning; (3)utilize field experiences and student-led stewardship projects; and (4) involve a partnership among local schools, community groups, natural resource professionals and local businesses. Grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded to new projects.  Applications must be received by June 15. Teacher Opportunities
Garden Crusader Awards
honor individuals who are improving the world through gardening. Awards will be made in: Education, Feeding the Hungry, Beautification, Urban Renewal, and Restoration.  There are five winners for each category. Grand prize is a $1,500 in cash plus a $1,500 Gardener's Supply gift certificate. Other Awards of Gift Certificates include: First place:$1,000; second place: $500; third place: $250; honorable mention: $50. Nominations must be submitted by June 15. NSTA New Science Teacher Academy will provide free professional development and mentoring in science teaching to  middle and high school science teachers in their first or second year of teaching. Student Opportunities
The Young Scientist Challenge
