    • Teacher explains idea of proximity to an other when speaking or listening.
    • Teacher models appropriate proximity to an other.
    • Student and teacher role play appropriate proximity to an other.
    • Student demonstrates appropriate proximity in natural setting.
    Assessment - Student interacts with others at an appropriate distance.
Lesson Plan
  • Student Outcomes - At the end of this lesson, the student will be able to demonstrate appropriate body proximity to an other either when speaking or listening.

Teaching Format
  • Introduce the skill - Explain to student that when listening or speaking that you need to be at the appropriate distance. For example, do not stand too close (arms length) when you speak to someone, or that you do not yell to someone across the room.
  • Teach the skill -
  • Model - Demonstate to student what the appropriate distance is to a speaker or listener.
  • Role-play for practice - Role play a scenario.
  • Skill maintenance/Generalization Activities (identify real-life situations to apply the skill) - Have student practice skill with peers in natural situations.
