eSIS Basics

eSIS is browser-based and web-accessible so you can access student records from any computer that has internet access and a current version of Internet Explorer. eSIS runs on an Oracle database.

Logging on to eSIS

  • Go to http://www.4j.lane.edu and select eSIS under the For Staff menu option
  • If you are using the Windows operating system a question about the J initiator comes up the first time you access eSIS from your computer. Click "yes" to install. This will take several minutes and longer (45 minutes or so) on a dialup connection from home.
  • Username
  • Password
  • Database (PROD – production, TRAIN – training)
  • Click "connect" or press RETURN

If you have access to more than one school

Select the school you wish to access

  • Click on the "Select School" button
  • In the list of school names, click on the school you wish to access
  • Check the "lock school" box on the lower left
  • Click "OK"

Change your password by going to the main menu and selecting user profile

Security

Your access level to eSIS will be set according to your "role" at your school. The areas you do not have access to will be grayed out.

"Lock" feature – temporarily disables access to eSIS. From the Menu bar select "Lock". To re-enter eSIS, enter your password.

Exit

To exit a screen:

  • Click on the "door", which is the exit button
  • If you receive an error message, correct the error before exiting
  • If you still want to exit without correcting the error
    • go to the menu
    • Select "action", then "exit"

    To exit eSIS completely:

    • Return to the Start Screen
    • Click on the exit button
    • The "Exiting Student Information System!" screen appears
    • Click "Yes" to exit
