Board Appoints Two to Budget Committee

The Eugene School District is seeking applicants to serve on its volunteer budget committee.

Anyone interested in serving in these positions should submit an application by Thursday, September 27, at 5 p.m., then attend and speak at the school board meeting on Wednesday, October 3 at 7 p.m.

The board will vote on Wednesday, October 17, to appoint two committee members. 

 

Positions

The openings are for positions that would serve through June 30, 2015. The school board will appoint two applicants to fill positions previously held by Wendy Laing and Tim Gleason, whose terms expired this summer. Members with expired terms may re-apply.

Requirements

Applicants must be registered voters and must live within the boundaries of the Eugene School District. (If you want to confirm that your residence is in the district, please visit www.rlid.org/services/quick_look.cfm or call 541-790-7571.)

Applicants do not need to be parents. 4J employees are not eligible for appointment.

Applications must be received by Thursday, September 27, at 5 p.m.

Applicants should attend the Eugene School Board meeting on Wednesday, October 3, at 7 p.m., and be prepared to briefly speak and answer questions from the board about their interest in the position. The board will vote at its following meeting, on October 17, to elect two appointees. Both meetings will be held at the 4J Education Center, 200 N. Monroe Street.

Term of Service

The 4J Budget Committee is expected to meet several times over the school year, beginning in December. Meetings are normally scheduled on Monday evenings at 7 p.m. New appointees may also be expected to participate in an orientation in the fall.

The appointed members will serve through June 30, 2015. If an appointee wishes to serve longer, she or he may apply for reappointment in 2015.

About the Budget Committee

 The Budget Committee has 14 members: the seven elected school board members and seven citizens appointed to three-year terms by the board.

Positions are non-partisan and are not connected to any specific region within the district. Committee members are not paid.
