Selection Teams Reviewing Architect Proposals

Eight architectural firms have submitted a total of 19 proposals to design 4J’s new school buildings.

Four of the district’s oldest schools will be rebuilt in the next few years, thanks to voters’ approval last month of the school improvement bond measure. In a first step, the district is seeking architects to provide architectural, engineering and other consulting services for the design of the new buildings. A strong response to the district’s request for proposals resulted in 19 proposals being submitted.

  • Roosevelt Middle School: 7 proposals
Design project: New middle school to replace current building
  • Arts & Technology Academy (former Jefferson Middle School building): 6 proposals
Design project: Combination of replacement and renovation of the existing building
  • Howard and River Road / El Camino del Río Elementary Schools: 6 proposals
Design project: Two new elementary schools to replace current buildings

Selection committees have been formed for each project, consisting of the principal from each school, at least one board member, and Capital Improvement Program staff. These teams are reviewing the architects’ proposals and will invite top candidates to interview this summer.

The top-ranked firms or partnerships for each project will be recommended to the school board for approval in August.
